A substance is a pollutant when its presence harms living things.pollutants can spread through air,water and soil,and through food chains.They harm and kill plants,animal and human.


WATER POLLUTION

As Malaysia becoming an industrial country,many of the rivers have become polluted due to the many wastes that have been poured into the rivers.such as the paper making industry,it requires chemicals,often poisonous in its production.Many people depend on the rivers and streams to survive.They depend on the river for food,water supply for drinking,bathing and for their crops.
The thousands of different plants and animals which live in water can be damaged by pollution.Also,human health depends on clean water supplies.Streams,rivers,and the sea are polluted by industrial and agriculture wastes,untreated sewage,and spilled oil.But the most easily damaged aquatic environment is the still,or slow moving,water of a lake.Sewage and farm animal waste discharged into rivers accumulate in lakes,and chemical fertilizers spread on the land can be washed into lakes by rain water.These pollutants contain nitrates and phosphates which act as fertilizers,causing a massive growth of algae.this can kill a lake by a process called eutrophication.This is what happens.
The rivers is very important for us.So,we must take care of rivers around us to avoid from pollution.Don't waste the rubbish,chemical substance and so on into the rivers.
