Iban is one the ethnic in Sarawak,Malaysia.Iban has many unique traditional art.One of the art is traditional instrument like 'tawak' and 'engkerumong'. 'TAWAK'
Long time ago,'tawak' or gong is use to communicate with the people in different place or longhouse.Besides that,'orang iban' also use gong when their place have a trouble.the trouble is like,headhunter come to their longhouse.They will use gong to call the other people for help.apart from that,they will play gong when there has a dead in the longhouse.furthermore,the unmista
kable boom of the gong is often heard resounding in the air during ceremonies namely Harvest Festival,weddings day,birthdays,thanks giving celebrations and welcomming celebration. 'ENGKERUMONG' This traditional instrument always be played with 'tawak'.In the sarawak longhouse,it also play for specific pieces or kind of gatherings or events.when there is high feast or festival liken 'Gawai' for example.It play when the 'ngajat' dance.It also hearing when the building of a new house. Long time ago,this instrument played the important part of Iban daily time,because they use it to communicate each other.Young generation must learn how ti play this instrument.This important because it is the heritage generation to another generation.
